This species is Eastern Mediterranean. It was recorded from Turkey and Iran ( Kiliç 1999). Haematopota sewelli was recorded from Palestine. Males of this species have a noteworthy hovering behavior; they can remain poised in the air like hoverflies ( Austen 1920).
