Paratype, 1 Male, Massif de l’Ankarana , Camp des princes, 12°57.270’S 49°07.608’E, 11-XI-2007, E. Guilbert coll. MNHN GoogleMaps .
Diagnosis. Body oblong, pronotum with narrow and uniseriate paranota, hood entirely convering head and pronotum from above, except posterior process. Hemelytra with costal area regularly biseriate and subcostal area narrow.
Description. Body shiny, glabrous, pale yellowish with some brown patches at posterior tip of discoidal area, posterior part of median carina, both sides of hood. Female (N=1) body length, 2.72; width, 1.20.
Head short, sharply declivent, armed with five slender adpressed tubercles, bucculae short, meeting in front, with two rows of areolae; antennae long and slender, antennal segment measurements: I, 0.20; II, 0.10; III, 0.92; IV, 0.68; rostrum reaching middle of metasternum.
Pronotum slightly longer than wide, punctate, tricarinate, lateral carinae ending anteriorly top of pronotum, raised, with one row of subquadrate areolae; median carina raised much higher than lateral carinae, with three areolae, small posteriorly, enlarged anteriorly, ending anteriorly before top of pronotum, connecting with cyst-like hood; collar narrow, three areolae wide, hood greatly developed as to form a cyst, concealing most of pronotum, partly covering head anteriorly, with large polygonal areolae, five to six areolae wide visible from above; paranota foliate, present all along pronotum, as wide as lateral carinae, with one row of subquadrate areolae; posterior process areolate, rostral sulcus wide and widening posteriorly, open behind.
Hemelytra slightly widened at base; costal area wide, slightly raised, regularly biseriate, areolae large and polygonal; subcostal area regularly biseriate, a little narrower than costal area, areolae smaller than on costal area; discoidal area longer than half the length of hemelytra, three areolae wide at widest part, areolae slightly smaller than on costal area; R+M vein raised; sutural area widening posteriorly, five areolae at widest part, areolae enlarging posteriorly.
Etymology. The species is named in reference to the Tsingy of Ankanara where it was collected.
Comments. This species resembles H. invaginatus Duarte Rodrigues. However , the carinae are higher, with larger areolae, the paranota are narrower, with one row of areolae (while two rows in H. invaginatus ), and the hood does not have an invagination inside in the middle. Like H. invaginatus it differs from H. infuscatus Lis and H. elegantulus Schouteden by the narrower subcostal and discoidal areas.
