Hypotelus micans Sharp, 1876 View in CoL

( Figs. 109, 110, 111 View FIGURES 109 – 111 , 113 View FIGURE 113 )

Hypotelus micans Sharp, 1876: 409 View in CoL (original description, type locality: “Ega”); Bernhauer & Schubert, 1910: 9 (catalog); Herman, 2001: 1785 (distribution).

Type material. Examined by photograph. Holotype deposited in BMNH, sex undetermined. The holotype is framed on cardboard with transparent cover and handwritten: “ Hypotelus / micans / Amazonas./ Type / D.S. ”; and bears the follows labels: (1) “ Type ” [white and red label, printed in black]; (2) “ Ega ” [green label, handwritten]; (3) “ S.America:/ Brazil.” [old white label, printed in black]; (4) “ Sharp Coll /1905–313.” [old white label, printed in black]; (5) “ Holotype / Hypotelus / micans Sharp, 1876 /det. R.G. Booth 2016” [white label, handwritten, last line printed in black]; (6) “ NHMUK 010582765 About NHMUK ” [white label, printed in black]. Figs. 109–111 View FIGURES 109 – 111 , images by Keita Matsumoto, copyright Natural History Museum, London.

Note: In the original description Sharp (1876) specified "a single individual". Geographical records. Brazil (Amazonas) ( Fig. 113 View FIGURE 113 ).

Biological notes. No data.

Remarks. Sharp described the specimen as having the antennae with “3rd joint much shorter than 2nd”. We examined the type material only via photographs and it was not possible to confirm that diagnostic character. By the photos, the type material is very similar to H. pusillus , and since the type of H. micans is not dissected it was not possible to determine whether this name is a synonym or not. So, we prefer to maintain H. micans as valid species waiting further studies.
