6. Lychnophora albertinioides Gardner (1846: 234) View in CoL . Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: near Itambé, August 1840, G. Gardner 4827 (lectotype: BM e! [ BM001009194 ], designated here; isolectotypes: BM e! [ BM001009195 ], E e! [ E00417134 ], F [not seen], G [not seen], GH e! [ GH0009902 ], K e! [ K000484692 , K000484693 ], NY [ NY01239469 ], P [ P00683115 , P00683116 (fragment)], US [ US 00147435], W e! [ W0029028 , W18890117761 ]).
Distribution and habitat: — Brazil (Minas Gerais). Probably campo rupestre.
Taxonomic notes: —Known only from three collections from the first half of the XIXth century. Distinctive features are the oblanceolate leaves and pseudoglomerules. Leaf shape and indument as well as the presence of a semi-amplexicaul leaf sheath seem to indicate a relationship with Piptolepis oleaster . A similar relationship was suggested by Coile & Jones (1981) and Semir (1991). However, the inflorescence in axillary position and persistent phyllaries prevent us to include this taxon in Piptolepis .
Representative specimens: — BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Serra do Itambé, Serro Frio, C.F.P. von Martius s.n. (1243) (P); no other data, A. de Saint-Hilaire catalogue B’ 834-573 (P).
