16. Lychnophora ramosissima Gardner (1846: 232) . Haplostephium ramosissimum (Gardner) Schultz-Bipontinus (1863: 375) . Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: bushy places in the Diamond district, July 1840, G. Gardner 4821 (lectotype: BM e! [BM001009189], designated by Coile & Jones (1983: 235); isolectotypes: B †, GH e! [GH00009911], K e! [K000484698, K000484699], P [P02536132 (fragment), P02536133], S e! [S-R-6743], W e! [W0029034]) ( Fig. 27 A ).

Distribution and habitat: — Brazil ( Bahia , Minas Gerais). Campo rupestre; 820–1350 m.

Taxonomic notes: —Known only by the type collection from Diamantina until recently, this species was collected several times on a further northward region from Grão-Mogol (Minas Gerais) to southern Bahia ( Almeida et al. 2015) . It is easily recognized by the small ovate leaves with a subpungent mucro and the extremely reduced outer pappus. Similar to L. passerina : see that species for a discussion of the differences.
