Type horizon.

Late Cernikian, late Pliocene-early Pleistocene.

Type locality.

"Novska (Bukovica)", Croatia.

Types.

Milan et al. (1974: 88) indicated a holotype, but it is uncertain whether the specimen was the only one Brusina had at hand (holotype by monotypy, Art. 73.1.2). The specimen is stored in the Croatian Natural History Museum, Zagreb, coll. no. 2993-639.

Remarks.

Junior homonym of Melanopsis subcostata d’Orbigny, 1850. Wenz (1928a: 120) introduced Melanopsis constricta nowskaensis as replacement name.
