Melpomene erecta (C.V.Morton) A.R.Sm. & R.C.Moran, Novon View in CoL 2(4): 429. 1992.
= Grammitis erecta C.V.Morton, Phytologia View in CoL 22: 72. 1971.
Range: — Colombia to Venezuela and Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Rare, known from four collections in Bolivia; terrestrial or in rock crevices, often forming large colonies in thick moss cushions; 2500–3100 m.
Notes: —Distinctive in having very long-creeping, relatively thick, and often ascending rhizomes, broad rhizome scales (to 60 cells wide at the base), and glabrous, relatively small fronds with narrow segments. The scales may have small lateral lobes that bear apical glands like the main apex; they are very helpful for identification but not always present.
