Range: —Southeastern Peru and Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon; epiphytic or sometimes on moss-covered rocks, in wet montane forests, cloud forests; 1950–3100 m.
Notes: — Melpomene flagellata is distinguished from M. moniliformis by the ascending or erect, unbranched rhizomes (vs. rhizomes horizontally creeping and branching in M. moniliformis ), basally tapering blades (vs. blades not tapering), and long setiform hairs regularly present in the sori (3–12(–20) per sorus, 1.2–1.8 mm long vs. 0–5 per sorus, 0.5.–1.0 mm long).
