Melpomene xiphopteroides (Liebm.) A.R.Sm. & R.C.Moran, Novon View in CoL 2(4): 431. 1992. var. xiphopteroides
= Grammitis xiphopteroides (Liebm.) A.R.Sm., Amer. Fern J. View in CoL 70: 26. 1980.
Range: —Southern Mexico to Panama, Colombia to Guyana and Bolivia (BE, CO LP, SC).
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic in wet montane forests, cloud forests; 950–2300 m.
Notes: —Along with M. melanosticta , M. xiphopteroides generally occurs at lower elevations than congeners in Bolivia. It is perhaps most similar to M. jimenezii in Bolivia, and further north to M. pilosissima in blade cutting.
Melpomene xiphopteroides (Liebm.) A.R.Sm. & R.C.Moran var. acrodontia (Fée) Lehnert, Phytotaxa View in CoL 5: 61. 2010. Range: — Bolivia (SC), southeastern Brazil. Ecology: —Rare, known from two Bolivian collections; epiphytic or sometimes epilithic in wet montane forests; 1150–1500 m. Notes:— Differs from var. xiphopteroides View in CoL by the blades not basally decurrent (vs. mostly basally decurrent) and segments with mostly ascending (vs. spreading to weakly ascending).
