Microctonus mellinus Muesebeck, 1936, p 17 .
Distribution: Eastern and central North America.
Specimens examined: Twenty-four from 19 collection events; questionable female identifications: one from one collection event.
Flight period: May through September.
Remarks: Most specimens, including the holotype, range from pale yellow to orange. Sometimes they are darker dorsally and rarely mostly light brown. However, all nine specimens (six female) observed from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are notably darker, the mesonotum and propodeum being brown to black and other areas ranging from pale yellow to brown. These specimens also average larger and have a longer petiole relative to the posterior width.
