Neoseiulus cozae View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figure 2A–E View Figure 2 )
Type material
Holotype female: Cynodon dactylon in the date palm orchard at Samar, 25 July 2000 collected by Eric Palevsky.
Diagnosis
Female. Setae ZV3 absent; peritremes reaching to level of setae j3 and ST3 situated on sternal shield.
Female (n = 1)
Dorsum ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ). Dorsal shield elongate-oval and reticulate, 358 long and 156 wide. Six pairs of solenostomes present, gd1, gd2, gd4, gd6, gd8 and gd9. All dorsal setae smooth, except for setae S4, S5, Z4 and Z5, which are serrated. Lengths of setae: j1 20, j3 25, j4 14, j5 12, j6 14, J2 16, J5 13, z2 19, z4 19, z5 11, Z1 19, Z4 31, Z5 64, s4 27, S2 28, S4 29, S5 34, r3 32, R1 23. Setae r3 and R1 on integument .
Peritreme. Extending to level of setae j3.
Venter ( Figure 2B View Figure 2 ). Sternal shield with vague reticulations medially, with three pairs of setae, ST4 on small metasternal shields. Posterior margin of shield straight with two small lobes laterally. Genital shield with a few striations. Distances ST1–ST3 76, ST2–ST2 57 and ST5–ST5 60. Ventrianal shield reticulate 113 long, 86 wide at level of setae ZV2 and 67 at level of anal opening, with three pairs of preanal setae and pair of small preanal pores posterior to JV2. Opisthogaster with six pairs of platelets, three pairs of setae and apparently only one pair of metapodal shields. Setae ZV3 absent.
Chelicera ( Figure 2C View Figure 2 ). Fixed digit 28 long, with five or six teeth and a pilus dentilis, movable digit 36 long and with one tooth.
Spermatheca ( Figure 2D View Figure 2 ). Calyx bowl-shaped and 13 long; atrium nodular connected to calyx by a very short stalk.
Legs ( Figure 2E View Figure 2 ). Leg IV with only one macroseta, St IV 59 long. Chaetotaxy of genu II: 2-2/0, 2/0-1, genu III: 1-2/1, 2/0-1.
Remarks
This species resembles N. leucophaeus (Athias-Henriot) in the absence of setae ZV3. However, it differs from the latter in that the peritremes extend to the level of j3, instead of the level of r3; setae ST3 are situated on sternal shield, instead of on a small platelet; in the shape of the sternal and ventrianal shields and in that macroseta StIV is much longer (17–24 in N. leucophaeus ). Neoseiulus cozae is the second species of the leucophaeus species group ( Chant and McMurtry 2003).
Etymology
This species is named after Mrs Anat Kozlovski-Palevsky, wife of the senior author. Cozae refers to her nickname.
