3. Pavonia ducke-limae Monteiro (1972: 127) View in CoL ( Figures 2 View FIGURE 2 , 5d–e, 6c–d).
Holotype:— BRAZIL. Pernambuco: São Lourenço da Mata, Aldeia, A. Ducke & D. Andrade-Lima 7 ( R barcode R-76224 ! [digital image], isotypes IPA barcode 2213! IAN barcode 75885)
Taxonomic notes: —Leaves are vary from orbicular (1.2‒9 × 1.4‒9 cm) with entire margin to ovate-lanceolate (24.4 × 13.6 cm) with dentate margin within the same individual. However, it can be identified in the field by its arborescent habit, pubescent branches and leaves, lanceolate stipules, and 9‒10, lanceolate, bracteolate epicalyx.
Distribution, habitat, and IUCN threat status: —Endemic to the northern portion of Atlantic Forest from the Brazilian Northeast (north of São Francisco River). The prior collections of P. ducke-limae indicated that this species occurred exclusively in the state of Pernambuco. However, two new records (indicated in additional material) prove their occurrence in Alagoas state. In Pernambuco is registered in five collections for three municipalities. Occurs in Mata Zone , subzone of Mata Úmida , inside the Área de Proteção Ambiental de Aldeia-Beberibe. This species presents an EOO of 3,097.778 km 2 and an AOO of 20.000 Km², resulting in the EN rating. However, in addition to presenting a restricted occurrence, this species is inserted within the coverage area of the Atlantic Forest, which corresponds to the most degraded phytogeographic domain of the Brazilian territory. Human occupation and the deforestation process contribute to the reduction of vegetation cover in this domain. With this constant reduction, species like P. ducke-limae may have their populations reduced and even extinct. The absence of recent collections may indicate that P. ducke-limae populations have suffered reductions, considering the processes related to the deforestation of this phytogeographic domain. Therefore, here is considered Critically Endangered (CR) following the IUCN (2022).
Phenology: —Collected with flowers in January, April, July, and October and with fruits in April and July.
