Basionym:— Piper peepuloides Roxb. Hort. Bengal 4. 1814, nom . nud. et Fl. Ind. i. 1: 159. 1820.

Chavica neesiana Miq. Syst. Piperac. 249. 1843.

Type :— NEPAL: Wallich 6656 (lectotype designated here U1476536 image!; syntype Wallich 6654 B U146537 image!) .

Piper arunachalensis Gajurel, Rethy & Kumar Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 137: 417.2001 nom invalid syn. nov.

Type:— INDIA: Arunachal Pradesh, Durpang R. F., Banderdawa, Gajurel 79 et 80 (isotypes CAL!).

Distribution:— INDIA: West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya; BANGLADESH, BHUTAN, NEPAL.

Note:— The species is closely similar in its leaves and general appearance to P. mullesua but differs in having sub sessile leaves and male and female spikes. Piper arunachalensis Gajurel, Rethy & Kumar is an invalid name as two holotypes were simultaneously cited (Art. 8.1 & 9.10 in McNeill et al., 2012). Both of them are very similar to type of P. peepuloides .
