Polyonyx confinis Haig, 1960 View in CoL
Polyonyx confinis Haig 1960: 234 View in CoL , fig. 12(3), pl. 17; Haig 1968: 72; Gore 1982: 21; García-Madrigal & Andréu-Sánchez 2009: 43.
Material examined. None.
Previous records from Panama. Gore (1982).
Distribution. East Pacific: Nicaragua and Panama ( Isla Venao) ( Gore 1982).
Ecology. Intertidal and shallow subtidal, presently known depth range: 0–6 m; the type specimens were dredged from a “bottom covered with mangrove leaves” ( Haig 1960; Gore 1982).
Remarks. Prior to Gore’s (1982) record of a single ovigerous female from Venao I., Panama, P. confinis was known only from the male holotype and female paratype from Corinto, Nicaragua. The rarity of this species is certainly due to yet unknown “commensal” association, possibly with a larger burrowing animal.
