REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 225) described Sphixosoma mucronata , without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, from material he had collected and also received from L. Bellardi. This nominal species was described under the generic name Spixosoma , which is an “unjustified emendation of Sphyxosoma Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 170). Stuke (2017: 51) only reported the three male and three female syntypes in the MZUF and did not mention those in the other collections. We found ten syntypes in this study.
