Taxonomy: The lectotype designated by Schedl (1979) is in NHMW. Although Schedl (1942) states ‘Typen im Imperial Insitute of Entomology und in meiner Sammlung’, no types were ever returned to London, and the species is not represented by type specimens in BMNH. The species is related to C. micrographus and C. simplex , but distinguished by the matt elytral declivity, and other characters given in the key.
Distribution: West Malaysia. The species is newly recorded here from East Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak),
New Records: [East Malaysia] Sarawak, Kuching, viii.1959 (F.G.Browne) (misdetermined as Cryptoxyleborus simplex ) (6) (BMNH); Sabah, Danum Valley Field Station, 117 ° 48 9 E, 4 ° 58 9 N; ex Parashorea malaanonan Merr. , 19.vii.2006, J. Hulcr (MSU)
Biology: Recorded from species of Shorea (Dipterocarpaceae) ( Browne 1961; Beaver & Browne 1979). Stems from 4–10 cm diameter were attacked. Newly recorded here from a branch (, 5 cm) of Parashorea malaanonan (Dipterocarpaceae) .
