Zalutschia Lipina, 1939 View in CoL

Hershey (1985) reported Zalutschia tatrica (Pagast, 1935) and Zalutschia zalutschicola Lipina, 1939 both from Toolik Lake. According to Hershey (1985) Z. zalutschicola was one of the most abundant species in Toolik Lake, and her data suggested a 2-year life cycle for this species. According to her Z. tatrica was less common in Toolik Lake with adults emerging in early July. The third species in Alaska, Zalutschia trigonacies was described by Saether (1976) from material collected around Ogotoruk Creek by Watson et al. (1966) and probably represent one of the Trissocladius sp. nov. listed by them. Zalutschia larvae were also found in lakes and streams in the Arctic Coastal Plain (AWQMS 2005). Kaufman et al. (2012) also listed two types of Zalutschia larvae from Lone Spruce Pond. The larvae of Zalutschia live mostly in lakes but can be found in ponds, puddles, ditches, and occasionally in streams (Andersen et al., 2013).
