Allocapnia recta Ricker and Ross, 1971:23 View in CoL

Kondratieff & Kirchner (2000) and Stark et al. (2000) used scanning electron microscopy to elucidate fine details and variability of the 8th abdominal process of A. recta View in CoL . When viewed dorsally this process varies considerably, including button-like and convex ( Kondratieff & Kirchner 2000, Fig. 24), button-like and weaklyincised distally ( Kondratieff & Kirchner 2000, Fig. 26), and trilobed and slightly concave distally ( Stark et al. 2000, Fig. 9). The deeply-incised form shown initially by Alford (1998, Fig. 5) from Mississippi as A. recta View in CoL was subsequently described as A. starki View in CoL by Kondratieff & Kirchner (2000) and illustrated in Nations et al. (2007). Fresh material of A. recta View in CoL collected from the Paint Rock River drainage in northeastern Alabama and southern Tennessee exhibits a dorsal process that is button-like and weakly-incised distally ( Figs. 3A–D View FIGURES 3 A – D ) and very similar to Fig. 26 in Kondratieff & Kirchner (2000).
