Etymology: The name of this species is in memoriam of I.A. Guillermo Augusto Carrero Herran, who worked with Colombian Tephritidae for a long time.

Recognition: In the key of Korytkowski (2004), A. carreroi runs to page 104, alternative 168, to A. compressa Stone or A. canalis Stone , especially because part of the serrate margin of the aculeus tip is turned upward. A. carreroi differs from those species in its larger body size, longer aculeus (2.48–2.62 mm vs 1.44– 1.6mm), and in lacking a medial scutal vitta.

Description. Mostly yellow. Setae black; setulae yellowish. Head: 0.84–1.15 mm long, 1.38–2.07 mm high, 1.53–2.15 wide. Yellow except ocellar tubercle black. Face almost flat, in profile concave medially not microtrichose. Carina weak between antennae, weaker in females. 3–4 frontal setae. Antenna 0.55–0.70 mm long, 0.14–0.22 mm wide in frontal view. Arista pubescent 0.92–1.11 mm long. 2 orbital setae well developed. Ocellar setae developed 1.7–2.1 times as long as ocellar tubercle. Thorax: Mostly yellow, microtrichose. Lateral scutal vittae white; medial scutal vitta absent. Dorsal margin of anepisternum white. Mesonotum 2.61–3.07 mm long, 1.92–2.61 mm wide, sometimes with small dark spots. Katepisternal seta long and slender (as long as orbital setae but more slender). Subscutellum and mediotergite yellow, sometimes with brown lateral marks. Wing (Fig 1. B): 6.04–9.07 mm long, 1.92–2.61 mm wide. Cell c 0.98–1.04 times as long as pterostigma. Apex of vein R1 at 0.57–0.62 wing length. Apex of vein M not especially strongly curved, ending approximately midway between apices of S and V-bands; cell r4+5 1.0–1.16 times as wide at apex as at level of DM-Cu. Crossvein R-M at 0.68–0.71 length of cell dm. Pattern mostly yellow, most margins of bands, most of pterostigma, basal part of C-band, distal part of S-band and posterior parts of Vband, brown; S-band with elongate medial hyaline area in the cell dm. S and C-bands narrowly connected along vein R4+5 (slightly separated in some specimens). V-band complete and separated from the S-band. Microtrichose, except cell bc, hyaline part in the base of the cell dm, the lateral margins of the hyaline part in the cell br, part of cells bm and bcu and the alula. Abdomen: 2.85–3.55 mm long. Tergites yellow. Male terminalia ( Fig 4 View FIGURE 4 . A–D): lateral surstylus in posterior view elongate, triangular; apex often truncate; median and margins slightly concave; in lateral view tapering, slightly posteriorly curved. Phallus 3.2–3.8 mm long; glans ( Fig 4 View FIGURE 4 . E) 0.41–0.52 mm long. Female terminalia: Oviscape 2.66–3.25 mm long, 0.89–1.17 times as long as mesonotum. Spiracle at basal 0.85–0.92 mm, at 0.27–0.33 length of oviscape. Eversible membrane ( Fig 2 View FIGURE 2 . C, D) with approximately 35 strong, slender hook-like dorsobasal scales in semi-elliptic pattern. Aculeus 2.48–2.62 mm long, 0.127–0.145 mm wide at the end of oviduct, 0.04–0.05 mm depth at the end of oviduct. Aculeus tip ( Fig 3 View FIGURE 3 . D–F) 0.27–0.34 mm long, 1.20–1.61 times as long as wide, finely serrate on distal 2/3–4/5, with slight constriction before serrate part. Teeth of aculeus tip visible in 40x. Serrate part 0.21–0.25 mm long, 0.10–0.14 mm wide, 1.61 –2.27 times as long as wide. Approximately basal half of serrate margin turned dorsally, basal teeth not always visible in ventral view.

Comments. A nastrepha carreroi belongs to the fraterculus group based on the slight constriction before the serrate part in the aculeus tip, part of the aculeus tip serrate, and the subscutellum and mediotergite sometimes with brown lateral marks. A lot of specimens were collected from fruits in surveys in 1998 and from 2006 to present. More than 200 specimens had been collected from different surveys of fruits; only the specimens cited in the type data were selected to be types.

Host: Specimens studied were reared from fruits of Anon amazonico ( Rollinia mucosa (Jacq.) , Annonaceae ) and another unidentified Rollinia sp.
