Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group, Namatamai District, New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 129).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on deep reefs, 100–330 m depth. Marine.
