Bembidion hesperium Fall, 1910
Bembidium hesperium Fall, 1910: 95 (as hesperum). Type locality: "Vancouver Island [British Columbia]" (original citation), herein restricted to Duncan (CNC). Holotype (♂) in MCZ [# 23862]. Note. The name Bembidion hesperium has been credited to Casey (1918: 9) by some authors on the basis that Casey proposed a replacement name for Bembidium hesperum Fall, 1910, supposedly a junior primary homonym of Bembidion hesperus Crotch, 1867. In fact, Casey (1918) emended Fall’s name to Bembidion hesperium since the name Bembidion hesperum is an incorrect latinization for Bembidion hesperium (adjective) or Bembidion hesperus (noun in apposition). Casey’s emendation is currently in prevailing usage and so deemed to be a justified emendation (ICZN 1999: Article 33.2.3.1).
Bembidion binarium Casey, 1918: 9. Type locality: «California» (original citation). Lectotype (♂), designated by Lindroth (1975: 115), in USNM [# 36796]. Synonymy established by Lindroth (1962: 8).
Distribution.
This western species ranges from southeastern British Columbia to Vancouver Island, south to east-central California [see Maddison 1993: Fig. 269].
