COMMON NAME (S): Fulvous hawk or Fulvous Sphinx .

SYNONYM(S): Protoparce mauritii Butler, 1877a ; Coelonia nigrescens Basquin, 1992 .

DISTRIBUTION: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Réunion, Rwanda, S„o Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Lusaka , in Lusaka Province; Kabwe, in Central Province.

LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include: one Verbenaceae species ( Lantana camara L.), one Oleaceae species ( Fraxinus floribunda Wall. ) and one Lamiaceae species ( Volkameria heterophylla Poir. ) in the Réunion ( Martiré & Rochat 2008); one Asteraceae species ( Dahlia pinnata Cav. ), one Verbenaceae species ( Duranta erecta L.) and one Solanaceae species ( Solanum sp. ) in South Africa ( Fawcett 1901; van den Berg et al. 1975); one Verbenaceae species ( Duranta sp. ) in Madagascar ( Griveaud 1959). Two Verbenaceae species ( Gmelina arborea Roxb. and Lantana camara L.), two Lamiaceae species ( Clerodendrum splendens G.Don and Clerodendrum paniculatum L.), two Solanaceae species ( Solanum torvum Sw. and Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ) and one Bignoniaceae species ( Newbouldia sp. ) in Nigeria ( Delf & Harris 1964; MacNulty 1970); four Solanaceae species ( Solanum melongena L., S. torvum Sw. , Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. and S. verbascifolium L.), two Verbenaceae species ( Duranta erecta L. and Lantana africana L.) and one Bignoniaceae species ( Kigelia africana (Lam.) Benth. ) in Côte d’Ivoire ( Vuattoux et al. 1989) and one Solanaceae species ( Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ) in Uganda ( Nyiira 1973).

The following are listed as larval food plants of the taxon in the countries listed above: two Verbenaceae species Lantana camara L., Duranta erecta L.), one Oleaceae species ( Fraxinus floribunda Wall. ), three Lamiaceae species ( Volkameria heterophylla Poir. , Clerodendrum paniculatum L. and C. splendens G.Don ), one Boraginaceae species ( Cordia caffra Sond. ), one Asteraceae species ( Dahlia pinnata Cav. ), one Convolvulaceae species ( Ipomoea sp. ), two Bignoniaceae species ( Markhamia lutea (Benth.) K.Schum. and Spathodea campanulata P.Beauv. ), one Acanthaceae species ( Acanthus pubescens (Oliv.) Engl. ), one Gesneriaceae species ( Aeschynanthus longicaulis Wall. ex R.Br. ) and one Solanaceaespecies ( Solanum torvum Sw. ) ( African Moths 2019).
