Cryptomanum spinosissimum View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs. 19–23 View FIGURES 19 – 23 )

Type material. Holotype ɗ: " Oman (Scheichtum), Dhofar, TopRope?, 23.IX.1994, A. Rihane / Holotypus ɗ Cryptomanum spinosissimum sp. n. det. V. Assing 2008" (cAss). Paratypes: 3ɗɗ: same data as holotype (cAss).

Etymology. The name (Latin, adjective, superlative of spinosum: with spines) refers to the conspicuous series of spines in the internal sac of the aedeagus.

Description. 7.0–8.0 mm. Forebody as in Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23 . Coloration of body reddish brown to blackish; legs pale yellowish; antennae reddish yellow, with the apex of antennomere I and antennomeres II–VI(VII) somewhat infuscate.

Head 1.25–1.30 times as long as wide and of subparallel shape; punctation areolate, coarse, and rather dense; interstices reduced to narrow ridges, in dorsal median area slightly wider, without microsculpture. Eyes distinctly bulging, approximately half as long as postocular region in dorsal view ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23 ). Antennae with antennomere I approximately as long as the combined length of the 5–6 following antennomeres.

Pronotum approximately 1.3 times as long as wide and 0.85–0.90 times as wide as head, widest between anterior angles and middle; punctation as coarse as, or coarser than that of head; impunctate midline relatively wide, width on average 2–3 times the diameter of punctures ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 23 ).

Elytra slightly longer than, and approximately 1.4 times as wide as pronotum; punctation areolate, approximately as coarse as, and even denser than that of pronotum. Hind wings fully developed. Metatarsomere I approximately as long as the combined length of II+III.

Abdomen about as wide as elytra, widest at segments V/VI; punctation fine and dense; interstices without microsculpture and shiny; posterior margin of tergite VII with palisade fringe; posterior margin of tergite VIII distinctly concave in the middle.

ɗ: sternite VII with pronounced median impression, this impression deepest anteriorly and with distinct, but rather small patch of dense pubescence, midline behind anterior impression without setae, posterior margin weakly concave, almost truncate ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19 – 23 ); sternite VIII with wide, in the middle almost angled, and moderately deep posterior excision, pubescence unmodified ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19 – 23 ); aedeagus with long, slender, and apically hooked ventral process; internal sac with two rows of 8–10 distinctly sclerotised spines, these spines decreasing in size towards apex ( Figs. 22–23 View FIGURES 19 – 23 ).
