Status at New Ireland. First recorded from West Harbour , New Hanover by Kailola (1975: 230). KFRS material. Photographed in Kavieng Region on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary, in coral and rubble areas of coral reefs, 3–53 m depth. Marine.
