Description. Body length up to 2.65 mm, excluding antennae (average: 2.37, n = 9). Ground colour white or very pale violet, with blue pigment covering many parts of body, as a mosaic, not at lateral body, forming dorsally a long triangle with the tip on Th II and the base on Abd III, and a figure as a ‘mask’ on Abd IV, on central Abd III a truncated cone shape, and lateral Abd V—VI; on legs, pigment on central femur almost whole posterior tibiotarsus; head with dorsolateral pale pigment, from vertex between antennae and posterior eyes, and a ‘Y’ shaped dorsal patch; antennae with pigment from half Ant I ( Figs 3B View FIGURE 3 , 4L View FIGURE 4 ).

Head. Eight eyes, GH smaller than EF. Antennae length 1.39 mm, 2.56 times the length of the head (n = 7 for all measurements); Ant IV with apical vesicle bilobed; relative length of Ant I/II/III/IV = 1/1.88/1.78/2.00. Prelabral chaetae ciliated. Labral papillae smooth ( Fig. 14E View FIGURE 14 ). Lateral process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla end.

Body. Length ratio of Abd IV/III = 4.00 (n = 8). Trochanteral organ with 24 chaetae. Tibiotarsus not subsegmented, without smooth chaetae, except for smooth terminal chaeta on legs III. Claw with four teeth: paired at 50% and first unpaired at 75% from basis; dorsal teeth basal ( Fig. 14F View FIGURE 14 ). Empodium lanceolate, with serrated external lamella in leg III. Tenent hair clavate. Length of manubrium and dens 0.46 and 0.62 mm, respectively (n = 7). Manubrial plate usually with 5–6 (up to 10) chaetae and two pseudopores. Mucro with teeth similar in size, mucronal spine reaching the tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 14G View FIGURE 14 ).

Macrochaetotaxy ( Figs 14A–D View FIGURE 14 ). Simplified Mc formula: 3-3-0-4-2/2-4/2-5(6)/1-2-2/3-4-3–2-2. Head: three Mc An on H1 area (An2, An3a1 and An3), three Mc (A5–7) present on area H2; four Mc on Area H4 (S1, S3, S4 and S4p) and with Ps2 and Ps5 on Area H5. Mesothorax: area T1 with two Mc (m1 and m 2i); T2 with four Mc (m4, m 4i, a5 and m5; a5’ always present as mes). Abdomen: Abd II area A1 with two Mc (a2 and a3), area A2 with up to 5–6 Mc (m3, m3ep, m3e, m3ea, m3eai and m3eai2,sometimes m3ea or m3eai are absent, only in one specimen are both absent in one side); Abd III with one Mc on area A3 (a1), two on A4 (a2 and a3) and two on A5 (m3 and m3e; in one specimen m3a is present at one side, and in two specimens m3e is absent); Abd IV with three Mc on A6, 4 Mc on A7, three Mc on A8 (A4, B4 and C2a, only in two specimens is A e4 present and in one of them asymmetrically), and two Mc on A9 (A5 and B5) and A10 (A6 and B6) In general, the chaetotaxy of this species is more plurichaetotic than the other Entomobrya in the Canary Islands.

Ecology. In Fuerteventura, found on rock shelves with Ononis and Sideritis , on moss and rock crevices in shrubland open areas and in Cynara horrida litter. In Lanzarote, on moss in rock fissures in shrubland and areas with trees near crops.

Etymology. Ico was the name of an aboriginal of the Maja ethnic group on the island of Lanzarote.

Remarks. The macrochaetotaxy formula for Abd III 1-2 -2 is present in a small number of Entomobrya species: E. albida Stach, 1963 , E. dumitrescuae Gruia, 1967 , E. fimbaensis Baquero & Jordana, 2008 , E. pamirensis Yosii, 1966 , E. montana Stebaeva, 1971 , E. naziridisi Jordana & Baquero, 2008 in: Ramel et al., 2008 and E. schoetti Stach, 1922 ; but taking into account the chaetotaxy of Th II and Abd II–III only E. naziridisi , among the Entomobrya previously described, shares its chaetotaxy, along with E. irayae sp. nov., E. tarzigae sp. nov. and E. airami sp. nov., described in this paper. Six characters separate them from E. naziridisi and E. airaimi sp. nov., and five characters differentiate them from E. irayae sp. nov. as shown in Table 5.
