Cancer (Gammarellus) arenarius Herbst, 1793 , a subjective junior synonym of Gammarus homari ( Fabricius, 1779) ( Amphipoda : Gammarida: Gammarellidae )

Cancer (Gammarellus) arenarius was used by Herbst (1793b: 133) for a species of amphipod. Stebbing (1888: 61), in his detailed treatment of amphipod literature listed “‘72. Die Sandgarneele. Cancer (Gammarellus) arenarius .’ […] is perhaps Amathilla homari, J.C. Fabr. [i.e. Fabricius 1779: 248]”. We follow Stebbing’s (1888: 61) tentative identification of Cancer (Gammarellus) arenarius Herbst, 1793 , as a junior subjective synonym of Gamarellus homari ( Fabricius, 1779) .
