Gymnetis punctipennis Burmeister, 1844: 565 (correct identification; description; distribution); Ohaus 1900: 217 (distribution; natural history); Schenkling 1921: 97 [catalog; distribution; references); Krajcik 1998: 77 (catalog; distribution); Ratcliffe 2004: 9 (types), 18 ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 25–29 ).

Paragymnetis punctipennis Burm. : Blackwelder 1944: 263 (catalog; distribution).

Distribution: BRAZIL (Burmeister 1842, Schenkling 1921, Blackwelder 1944, Schürhoff 1937, Krajcik 1998): Rio de Janeiro: Petrópolis (Ohaus 1900).

Paralectotype (examined)

BRAZIL: 1 ex. paralectotype [ BHCK], “ punctipennis / Burm./ bajula G.P. / Bras.” [handwritten by Burmeister, pinned to the bottom of the drawer].

Further specimens: 1 male lectotype [ MLUH], red lectotype label ; 1 female paralectotype [ MLUH], red lectoallotype label ; 1 male paralectotype, 1 female paralectotype [ MLUH], yellow paralectotype labels (Ratcliffe 2004: 9).

Material examined: BRAZIL: Minas Gerais: Passa Quatro , XI-1915, 1 ex. [ DIOC], “ Gymnetis / punctipennis / Burm.” [handwritten] ; Rio de Janeiro: Corcovado, 28-XI-1958, Alvarenga, Seabra & Martínez leg., 2 exx. [ DIOC] ; Without locality: Col. Breyer, 12 exx. [ MACN].

Note: Gymnetis punctipennis is erroneously cited as published in 1842 (Schenkling 1921, Blackwelder 1944, Krajcik 1998, Ratcliffe 2004), but Burmeister validated this name in 1844, referring to the description previously given in 1842 for G. bajula , not Olivier, 1789, as was correctly stated by Schaum (1844) and Schürhoff (1937: 59).
