Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at St. KVGPMT47 (Bagail Bay, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 23 Aug. 2014; a specimen observed at Balang Island, New Hanover, 1–18 m depth, St. T21, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Malaysia east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, among mixed coral, gravel, or seagrass, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
