Ichnea mimica Gorham, 1877: 412 . Lectotype ♂. Herein designated. Amazon , Para (Bates) (BMNH). (Specimen point mounted, gender label affixed to paper point; support card; locality label; round type label, rectangular type label; specimen number label; Gorham type label; Fry collection label; identification locality label; lectotype label; plastic vial with aedeagus.) Diagnosis. The strong constriction of the anterior half of the pronotum and the postmedial yellow elytral fascia will conveniently distinguish the members of this species from specimens of I. lycoides , the only other known species of Ichnea that exceeds 10 mm.

Description. Size: Length 12.0 mm; width 3.5 mm. Form ( Fig. 133 View Fig ): Narrowly triangular. Integumental color ( Figs. 106 View Figs , 133 View Fig ): Cranium mostly dark brown, epicranium narrowly yellow behind eyes, pronotum mostly dark brown, yellow at upper sides; elytra mostly dark brown, with short yellow line at humeral angles and broad yellow fascia behind middle. Head: HW/PW 1; frons indented; EW/VW 4.9; antenna as in Fig. 169 View Figs , funicle not compressed. Thorax: Pronotum considrably narrowed in anterior half; PL/PW 1; strongly flared to posterior two-thirds, EL/PL 5.4; EL/ EW 2.1; anterior margin of protibia with 13 spines.

Variation. Size: length 13.0– 13.5 mm; width 5.0– 5.2 mm. Other than small differences in size, the available specimens do not vary appreciably.

Distribution. Known only from Brazil ( Map 5 View Map 5 ).

Specimens Examined. In addition to the lectotype, I have examined two specimens from BRAZIL: Amapá: Pará. Specimens are deposited in CMNH and WOPC .

marginella species-group

The narrow vertex will easily identify the members of this monotypic group. The geographic range of this group extends from northwestern Mexico to southern Brazil.
