Kivua pleuritica ( Forsius, 1927)

Athalia pleuritica Forsius, 1927: 98 . Locus typicus: British East Africa [ Kenya], Masai Reserve. Holotype: ♂. British East Africa [ Kenya], Masai Reserve, 3.IV.1911, T. J. Anderson (BMNH). Neacidiophora pleuritica: Benson, 1962: 382 .

Pseudoneacidiophora pleuritica : Koch, 1998a: 11.

Ethiopian material. L[ake] Bishoftu [08°44’N 038°59’E], 7000 ft, 30 km S Addis Abeba, 29.VII.1945 (1 ♀) K. M. Guichard ( BMNH).

Distribution. Etiopia, Kenya.

Host plant. Unknown.

Remarks. Kivua pleuritica is a small species (5.5–6.5 mm), and similarly coloured to typical Athalia species: head and thorax black, abdomen yellow. Furthermore, Forsius (1927) described the antenna as 10-jointed (8 flagellomeres). In fact, the flagellum is subdivided in 7 flagellomeres. The misinterpretation of these morphological characters explains why Forsius (1927) described the species in Athalia . The genitalia of K. pleuritica were illustrated by Koch (1998a: figs 40–43).
