Diagnosis. Lucaina marginata can be identified among other Lucaina by the black elytra with yellow margins (some specimens may have the basal 1/5 of elytra yellow), a wide black longitudinal stripe on the pronotum (some specimens may have black spots only on disc) ( Fig. 2 ), the elongate rostrum and labrum ( Fig. 9 ), and the male genitalia parallel-sided and apex of the median lobe triangular ( Fig. 17 ).

Redescription of Adult. Width across humeri 2.0–2.5 mm; elytral length 5.0–6.0 mm. Dorsal color black, with yellow lateral margins on elytra (some specimens may have basal 1/5 of elytra yellow) and pronotum (some specimens may have black spots on disc only) ( Fig. 2 ). Head prolonged in long rostrum, with coronal sulci strongly prominent. Eyes small, finely faceted, not approximate ( Fig. 9 ). Mandibles short, straight, not connate to labrum, labrum elongate, sometimes transverse. Maxillary palpomere IV and labial palpomere III elongate compared to preceding palpomeres, not notched apically. Antennae subserrate, dorsoventrally slightly flattened, inserted below eyes, with antenniferous tubercles pronounced. Antennomere I subconical, antennomere II about half length of I, antennomere III subequal in length to I, IV about 1/4 longer than III, V slightly shorter to IV, antennomeres VII–XI gradually decreasing in length. Pronotum as long as wide, margins slightly pronounced, thin, angles rounded, with a pair of subtle oblique elevations arising from posterior lateral margins of pronotum. Elytra subparallel, lateral margins stout, elytral costae indistinct, densely punctate, pubescence decumbent. Ventrite VII of females with a deep, triangular notch on apical region, apices with acuminated tips, almost rather triangular ( Fig. 23 ). Male genitalia with median lobe slightly shorter than parameres, apex of median lobe triangular; parameres parallel-sided in basal portion, fusiform in apical portion, ventral base of parameres elongate, about 1/3 total length of parameres ( Fig. 17 ).

Biology. Adults of L. marginata have been collected on mesquite flowers ( Prosopis L., Fabaceae ) and Senegalia greggii (A. Gray) Britton and Rose (Fabaceae) .
