Material studied. Holotype. ♂. PHILIPPINES, Mindanao, Mt. Apo, Agko – Lake Binado 1350–2300 m alt. (holotype collected on the way between the two localities) 3.viii.1978, Nakanishi, A. & Yata, O. leg. (KUC).

Description. ♂. Head. Palp and other mouthparts yellow, face brownish, posterior parts of head brown. Antenna brownish to brown, scape, pedicel and base of 1st flagellomere yellow. 1st flagellomere about 2.5x its width, 2nd 1.5x its width. Thorax. Pronotum yellow, with 3 long setae. Scutum brown with or without indistinct yellowish anterior margin. Anepisternum yellow to yellowish. Preepisternum yellow to brownish. Scutellum brown, with 4 long setae. Laterotergite brownish to brown. Mediotergite brown, bare. Wing. Length 4.0 mm. Wing hyaline. Sc ending in R1 distinctly distad of middle of small cell, Sc1 missing or broken (spur of Sc1 not reaching C). Apical part of Sc bearing about 12 small setae. Small cell about 2x as long as wide. Cu fork slightly distal to M fork. M ratios: 0.74, 1.00. Cu ratios: 0.82, 1.28. Small setae: M petiole: 0; M1: 4–5; M2: 4–5; Cu petiole: 0; Cu1: 1; Cu2: 1. Halter yellowish, apex brownish. Legs. Coxae and femora yellow, tibiae and tarsi brownish. Coxa 2 without spur. Leg ratios: bt1:t1 = 0.82, bt2:t2 = 0.65, bt3:t3 = 0.58. Abdomen. Tergites brownish to brown. Sternites brownish. Hypopygium. Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 A–D, yellow. Sternal lateral appendage setose, short and rounded ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C). Apical 1/3 of sternal synsclerite (including sternal lateral appendage) covered by strong setae, with some short, thin setae extending along submedian margin mid-way towards base of sternal submedian filament. Sternal submedian filament (stemming from basal-middle part of deeply bilobed sternal synsclerite) straight, longer than sternal lateral appendage ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 B). Gonostylus with two apical teeth. Apex of aedeagus rounded ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D).

Discussion. Mycomya nakanishii belongs to the subgenus Cymomya (as discussed for M. klossi above). It is a dark species, without the typical contrasting colour pattern of most species of the subgenus. It is quite similar to the Nepalese M. paguma Väisänen (2013: figs. 6A–C) in having a short and rounded sternal submedian appendage ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C) and its sternal submedian filament being longer than the sternal lateral appendage ( Figs. 4 View FIGURE 4 B–C). The setosity of the sternal synsclerite extends widely from the apex to the middle part in M. paguma , whereas only the apical third of sternal synsclerite has setae in M. nakanishii (excluding the small, thin setae along the submedian margins). The sternal lateral appendage of M. paguma ( Väisänen 2013a: fig. 6B) is relatively larger and longer than in M. nakanishii ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C), when the appendage is compared to the apical submedian extension of the sternal synsclerite on the other (medial) side of the base of gonostylus. The sternal submedian filament of M. paguma is very long, extending beyond the apex of the gonostylus, unlike in M. nakanishii .

Etymology. The species is named after the Japanese entomologist, A. Nakanishi, who collected the holotype (together with O. Yata).
