The sansii View in CoL –group

This group counts seven species and three subspecies. Although almost all of its members are well known from a nomenclatural perspective, this is a particularly difficult group and many questions need to be answered yet, also through the use of biochemical and genetic methodologies. This is due to the homogeneous male characters and the variability between populations which often display features intermediate between two or more taxa. One recent example was discussed by Pederzani & Schizzerotto (2000) for N. clarkii , N. martinii martinii and N. martinii sardus . To avoid conjecture, the work here is limited to a key for the diagnosis of the known taxa, using the statuses formally adopted in the literature, and to a redescription of N. lynesi , found to be a member of this group. A lectotype is here designated for N. clarkii . For the diagnosis of the subspecies of N. bucheti see Fresneda et al. (1997).
