Osbornellus thompsoni Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 34a–34e)

Description. Length: 3.9–4.6 mm. Member of the species O. affinis group. ( Fig. 1d). Vertex rounded; median length slightly less than width between eyes at posterior margin. Bright pale yellow, unmarked. Pronotum slightly darkened, with faint band along anterior margin. Scutellum light yellow with brown spots in basal angles. Anterior wing transparent, yellow, with faint brown spot at apices of claval suture and claval veins, rarely also at ends of costal veinlets

Male genitalia: Pygofer about twice as long as greatest width, moderately projected posteriorly, apex widey rounded; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical half ( Fig. 34a). Valve ovate, margins rounded in anterior half, slightly curved. Plates long, apex pointed, with a few clusters of plumose setae at apex ( Fig. 34b). Style with apophysis short, striate, curved and truncate ( Fig. 34c). In ventral view aedeagus with wide base and straight sides; shaft with wide base, tapered, curved dorsad then in last third slightly curved caudad, apex truncate, slightly longer than ventral processes ( Fig. 34d). Ventral processes arising a third of the way along the aedeagus, widely divergent, apices tapered and pointed, serrate. In lateral view shaft S-shaped, curved caudad, tapered, truncate at apex; dorsal projection slender, straight, apex pointed. Gonopore apical. Ventral processes separated from shaft at base, curved slightly dorsad, apices pointed ( Fig. 34e).

Diagnosis. Externally very similar to O. affinis . The aedeagal shaft of O. thompsoni , in lateral view, is Sshaped and the ventral processes are serrate, whereas in O. affinis the aedeagus is shorter and the ventral processes have sclerotized spirals.

Distribution. Known from Costa Rica and Panama; 50–1300 m.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Vinton Thompson, in recognition of his research on Cercopidae .
