Description. Length: 5.5–6.2 mm. Member of the O. rarus group ( Fig. 1b). Similar to O. libratus .

Male genitalia: Pygofer moderately projected posteriorly, apex very wide, rounded; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical half of pygofer ( Fig.49a). Valve triangular, ventral margins curved, anterior middle curved. Plates short, base wide, tapered to pointed apex, with setae plumose ( Fig. 49b). Style with apophysis long, straight, apex curved and truncate ( Fig. 49c). Aedeagus in ventral view with base quadrate, wide, margins rounded. Ventral processes absent; shaft tapered to apex, with three projections, the middle one slightly longer and pointed, with lateral extensions of dorsal projection ( Fig. 49d). In lateral view shaft curved dorsad, apex with three pointed projections; dorsal projection long, curved caudad, truncate ( Fig. 49e). Gonopore subapical.

Diagnosis. Very similar to O. libratus . In ventral view the aedeagal shaft of O. trifurcatus has three apical projections, the middle one slightly longer; in O. libratus the apical projections is more bifid with, but the middle one is shorter.

Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 2400–2480 m.

Etymology. This species is named for the three projections of the aedeagal shaft.

Paratype: COSTA RICA: Limón: 1 female, Parque Internacional La Amistad, Valle del Silencio, Sendero al Jardín Natural , 2400m, 1-5-X-2003, R. Delgado, ( INBio) ; 3 male, 1 female, Parque Internacional La Amistad, Valle del Silencio , 2480m, 20-26-IX- 2003, Rubí, González, Delgado, Alfaro ( INBio, MZCR, CAS) ; 1 male, same locality (2453m) and collector 17-III-2-IV-2003 ( INBio) ; 2 male, same locality (2480) and collector, 27-IX-3-X-2003 ( INBio, USNM) ; 2 male, 2 female, same locality (2460m) and collector, 20-IX-5-X-2003 ( INBio) .
