Ostorhinchus kiensis ( Jordan & Snyder 1901)—Rifle cardinalfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11226 (1 spec., 52.9 mm SL, St. CP4457-12, northeast of Bangatang), and NTUM 11308 (1 spec., 43.4 mm SL, St. CP4490-8, northwest of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, on sand bottom adjacent to coastal reefs or lagoons, including mangrove habitats, 0–133 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
