Type material. Holotype: ♂ from Porto Velho (09°15’S, 64°24’W), Caiçara, transecto 2, Rondônia, Brazil, 24 November 2010, R.B. Almeida leg. (MZSP 35690). Paratypes: 1♀, same locality as holotype, 24 November 2010, M.C. Oliveira leg. (MZSP 37007); 1♂, same locality as holotype, Mutum, transecto 8, 5 June 2011, AM. Giroti leg. (IBSP 163265); 1♀, same locality as holotype, Mutum, transecto 5, 29 August 2010, G. Perroni leg. (IBSP 163266); 1♀, same locality as holotype, Mutum, transecto 5, 29 August 2010, R.Y. Lemos leg. (MZSP 34797), all in Rondônia, Brazil.

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition and refers to the Usina Hidrelétrica de Jirau , a hydroelectric plain that is being built in the. type locality.

Diagnosis. Males of Uaiuara jirau sp. nov. resemble those of U. amazonica (Simon) comb. nov. in the short retrolateral groove in the palps, not reaching half the cymbium length ( Figs. 30 View FIGURES 29 – 32 , 42 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ). They can be distinguished from the latter species by the retrolateral grove with few sparsely distributed setae ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ). The females resemble those of of U. amazonica (Simon) comb. nov. and U. dianae sp. nov. in the large triangular projections of the lateral lobes ( Figs 31 View FIGURES 29 – 32 , 39 View FIGURES 37 – 40 , 43 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ). They are distinguished from these species by the triangular projections surpassing the posterior margin of the median septum ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ) and by the Lp short and tapering towards the very moderately convoluted Cp, with only three or four loops ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ).

Description. Male (MZSP 35690, holotype): Prosoma orange brown, slightly darker at eye area, with brown margins, brown fovea and faint brown marks between thoracic striae. Eye borders black. Legs and pedipalps orange brown ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Sternum yellow with orange margins. Labium and endites orange, distally cream colored. Opisthosoma pale brownish cream colored with dorsal pattern of scattered brown marks laterally and on anterior half and chevron-like marks on posterior half ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Total length 6.0. Prosoma: 2.9 long, 2.5 wide. Opisthosoma: 3.1 long, 1.7 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.18, 0.16, 0.12, 0.16; interdistances: 0.12, 0.04, 0.22, 0.18, 0.12, 0.06. Legs: I: 11. (3.0, 1.3, 3.0, 2.9, 0.9); II: 11.2 (3.1, 1.4, 3.0, 2.9, 0.8); III: 8.7 (2.6, 1.1, 2.0, 2.3, 0.7); IV: 10.3 (2.9, 1.1, 2.5, 2.9, 0.9). Spination: tibiae I–II v 8 pairs. Palp: tibia almost as long as cymbium with two prolateral and one dorsal spine; dRTA long, reaching the base of the retrolateral groove, slightly rectangular in ventral view; vRTA, triangular in retrolateral view; VTA median; cymbium with short retrolateral groove, flanked by few, sparsely distributed setae; subtegulum/tegulum notch at 5 o’clock; tegulum flanked prolaterally by hyaline lamina, protruding at the base of embolus and becoming slightly membranous at the base of conductor; embolus arising from tegulum at 5 o’clock ( Figs 41–42 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ).

Female (MZSP 37007, paratype): Coloration as in male, slightly darker and with more markings on opisthosoma ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Total length 7.4. Prosoma: 2.8 long, 2.4 wide. Opisthosoma: 4.4 long, 3.0 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.20, 0.16, 0.14, 0.16; interdistances: 0.14, 0.06, 0.22, 0.22, 0.12, 0.08. Legs: I: 10.0 (2.9, 1.4, 2.8, 2.3, 0.6); II: 10.4 Spination femur IV r0-1-1; tibiae I–II: v 8 pairs; tibia IV: d0. Epigyne: epigynal field slightly wider than long; median septum almost two times wider than long, posteriorly convex and smooth ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ). Vulva: LP short, slightly divergent; gp slightly rounded arising from Cp, closer to the fertilization ducts than to the Lp; fertilization ducts long, diverging posteriorly and with tips pointing towards each other ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 44 ).

Variation. Males (n = 2): Total length 6.0–6.5; prosoma length 2.9–3.0; femur I length 3.0–3.2. Females (n = 3): total length 7.4–8.5; prosoma length 2.8–3.3; femur I length 2.9–3.0.

Distribution. Brazil (state of Rondônia) ( Fig. 57 View FIGURE 57 ).
