Distribution in the Balkans. Greece: Thasos Island, Panagia, Drakotrypa cave (type locality) ( Mauriès 1985). World distribution. Endemic subspecies to the island of Thasos (Aegean Islands, Thracian Sea) Greece.
Remarks. The nominotypical subspecies is distributed in Azerbaidjan ( Attems 1899), Georgia ( Lohmander 1936), and Turkey ( Enghoff 2006), M. b. dagestanus Lohmander, 1936 also lives outside the Balkans, in Daghestan and the Russian Caucasus.
