Etymology The species is dedicated to Jan van Tol (masculine singular genitive noun). Male (holotype) Head − Labium completely yellow. Rear of head of normal shape. Front of head, including labrum, mandibles, clypeus and sockets of antennae yelloworange ( Fig. 11 ). Basal two segments of antennae yellow-orange, remainder brown. Top of head black. Thorax − Sides of prothorax dull orange mottled with black; pronotum dull orange areas with median parts of anterior, middle and posterior lobe blackish. Posterior lobe of pronotum broad, seen from lateral gently sloping and with the outer border steeply raised, lateral corners rounded. Pattern of synthorax as in Figure 19 ; darker areas black, pale areas yellowbrown. Figures 19–22. Body of Celebargiolestes males. 19 – C. toli sp. nov. , holotype; 20 – C. toli sp. nov. , Peleng Island, 05-viii-1941, JvT6453; 21 – C. orri sp. nov. , holotype; 22 – C. orri sp. nov. , 10 km WNW Palopo, 29-x-1993, JvT11910. Legs − Coxae and trochanters dull orange-yellow. Femora yellow with two broad but faint black rings, knees black, tibiae and tarsi yellow-brown. Spines pale orange-brown; femora with respectively 9–10, 9–10, 14–16 spines laterally; tibiae of fore legs with 11–12 smaller and 6 larger spines laterally; tibiae of mid and hind legs with 12–13 and 13 spines respectively laterally. Wings − Venation black. Membrane hyaline with a smoky outer border. Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 34 Px and Hw with 32 Px. Ac at about ¼ the distance between Ax1 and Ax2. Brace vein absent. Pterostigma dark brown. Up to three rows of cells between anal vein and border of Fw and up to four in Hw. Fields between Ir2 and R3, between R3 and IR3, and between IR3 and R4 at distal end containing 3 or more rows of cells. Abdomen − Pattern on abdomen as in Figure 19 ; dark pattern elements dark brown to black, pale pattern elements yellow-brown. Anterior half of S1 yellow, posterior half dark brown, S2 with dorsum black and sides pale brown, S3–7 dorsally largely dark, ventral and the lower lateral areas pale brown, anteriorly on each segment the pale brown reaches to the dorsum forming a ring covering approximately ¹ /₅ of the segment. S9–10 black, the latter strongly depressed in the middle, hind border of S10 without modifications. Appendages as shown in Figures 40–42 ; brown with only base of lower appendages yellow. Lower appendages long, about half the length of upper appendages. Genital ligula as in Figures 28–31 , with shallow and apically broad cleft. Lateral lobes of ligula large with rounded tip but not constricted in the middle. Measurements [mm] − Total length 49, abdomen 39, Fw 36; Fw pterostigma 1.7 (costal length), 2.3 (longest length); Hw pterostigma 1.9 (costal length), 2.5 (longest length). Variability Head – Specimens from the vicinity of Wotu and from Peleng Island have the anterior third to half of labium black while specimens from the vicinity of Gn Watuwila (type area) have a completely yellow labium. Thorax – Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 34–40 Px and Hw with 28–36 Px. In specimens from Peleng Island the yellow on the head is more extensive ( Figs 12 , 20 ). Abdomen – Seen from ventral the lower appendages show differences in shape between the population from the Gn. Watuwila ( Fig. 44 ) and those from the surroundings of Peleng Island ( Fig. 45 ). Measurements [mm] – Total length 44–45, abdomen 35, Fw 32–33, Hw 32– 33 (specimens from Peleng Island). Total length 46–52, abdomen 36–42, Fw 33–36, Hw 33–36 (specimens from the surroundings of Gn. Watuwila ). Total length 47–49, abdomen 37–39, Fw 32–34, Hw 32–34 (specimens from the surroundings of Wotu). Female Head − Pattern as in male. Thorax − Pattern on prothorax, synthorax and legs as in male. Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 27–32 Px and Hw with 26– 27Px. Pt white with a slight yellow tinge, outer border in older specimens mottled greyish-black. Abdomen − Stockier and shorter than in male. Pattern largely as in male; dark areas dark brown to black, pale parts are yellow-brown. S3–9 dorsally largely dark, ventral and lower lateral areas yellow, the yellow on the anterior of each segment reaches to the dorsum forming a yellow ring covering approximately ¹/₅ to ¹ /₁0 of the segment. S10 dorsally black but laterally largely pale brown, cerci brown, base of valvifer pale brown becoming brown to black towards the tip, shaped as in C. cinctus . Measurements [mm] Total length 41, abdomen 32, Fw 33; Hw 33 (one female from the surroundings of Wotu). length 40–41, abdomen 31–32, Fw 31–34; Hw 31–34 (surroundings of Gn. Watuwila ). Differential diagnosis Males are distinguished from other species of Celebargiolestes by the combination of the following characters: (1) labrum yellow; (2) postclypeus and frons yellow-brown; (3) genital ligula with a shallow apical cleft; (4) lower appendages long, about half the length of the upper appendages and, when seen from lateral, with the tip reaching the level of the upper appendages.
