Etymology The species is dedicated to Richard R. Askew (masculine singular genitive noun). Male (holotype) Head − Anterior ⅔ of labium dark brown, posterior third yellow-brown. Labrum dull brown-black; front of head, including mandibles and sockets of antennae dull yellow-orange (ochre), anteclypeus pale brown, postclypeus dull orange with a median black mark, which is broad in front and becomes smaller towards frons, area in front of antennae black, more constricted smaller towards the clypeus and there connected with the black on the postclypeus ( Fig. 10 ). Antennae orange-brown, top of head black with pale oval spot between antennae and lateral ocelli. Thorax − Sides of prothorax dull orange with a posterior black mark; anteri- or and middle lobe largely black but with the sides dull yellow-orange. Posterior lobe of pronotum black with outer border dull yellow-orange, seen from lateral gently sloping and with the outer border steeply raised, lateral corners rounded. Pattern of thorax as in Figure 18 ; darker areas black, pale areas yellow-orange. Figures 7–14. Figures 15–18. Body of Celebargiolestes males. 15 – C. cinctus (immature), Ranotongkor, 02-viii-1940, JvT6476; 16 – C. cinctus (old adult), Mapanget, 23-vi-1940, JvT6638; 17 – C. cinctus (‘red legs’ form), 25 km NE of Luwuk, 30-i-1989, JvT6670; 18 – C. askewi sp. nov. , holotype. Legs − Coxae and trochanters dull yellow-orange, femora yellow-orange with two broad but poorly defined black rings, knees black, tibiae and tarsi pale brown, spines pale brown. Femora with respectively 9, 10, 17 spines laterally; tibiae of fore legs with 12 smaller and 6 larger spines laterally; tibiae of mid and hind legs with 12 and 15 spines, respectively laterally. Wings − Venation black. Membranes slightly suffused and with a smoky out- er border. Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 34–36 Px and Hw with 31–32Px. Ac at about ¼ to ⅓ the distance between Ax1 and Ax2. Brace vein absent. Pterostigma dark brown. Up to three rows of cells between anal vein and bor- der of Fw and up to four in Hw. Fields between Ir2 and R3, between R3 and IR3, and between IR3 and R4 at distal end containing 3 or more rows of cells. Abdomen − Pattern as in Figure 18 ; dark pattern elements dark brown to black, pale pattern elements yellow-brown. Anterior half of S1 yellow, posterior half brown to black, S2 with dorsum black and laterally pale brown, S3–6 dorsally largely dark, ventral and lower lateral areas pale brown, anteriorly on each segment the pale brown reaches to the dorsum forming an inconspicuous brown ring covering approximately ¹ /₁0 of the segments. S7–10 black, the latter strongly depressed in the middle, hind border of S10 without modifications. Appendages as shown in Figures 37–39 ; both upper and lower appendages dark brown to black. Lower appendages short, about ¼ the length of upper appendages, slightly down-curved and, when seen from lateral, with tip not reaching level of the upper appendages. Genital ligula as in Figures 26–27 , with a broad but shallow apical cleft; lateral lobes large, halfway constricted and with a broader rounded tip. Measurements [mm] − Total length 50, abdomen 40, Fw 35; Fw pterostigma 1.6 (costal length), 2.3 (longest length); Hw pterostigma 1.8 (costal length), 2.6 (longest length). Variability In the type the labrum is dull brown black but in some of the other specimens it is shining metallic black. Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 34–38 Px and Hw with 32–34 Px. Measurements [mm] − Total length 49–52, abdomen 39–42, Fw 34–36, Hw 35–36. Female Head − Pattern as in male. Thorax − Pattern on prothorax, synthorax and legs as in male. Fw and Hw with 2 Ax; Fw with 28–33 Px and Hw with 26–29 Px. Pt yellowish, outer border often mottled greyish-black. Abdomen − Pattern on abdomen largely as in male, dark areas are dark brown to black, pale areas are yellow-brown. S3–9 dorsally largely dark, ventral and the lower lateral areas yellow, anteriorly on each segment the yellow reaches to the dorsum forming a yellow ring covering approximately a fifth to a tenth of the segment. S10 black, cerci brown, base of valvifer yellow, becoming brown to black towards the tip, shaped as in C.cinctus . Measurements [mm] − Total length 41–44, abdomen 32–34, Fw 32–34; Hw 32–34. Differential diagnosis Males are distinguished from other species of Celebargiolestes by the combination of the following characters: (i) labrum black; (ii) postclypeus and frons largely black; (iii) ligula with a shallow apical cleft; (iv) lower appendages short, about ¼ the length of the upper appendages, slightly downcurved and, when seen from lateral, with the tip not reaching the level of the upper appendages.
