Simulium ( Gomphostilbia ) angulistylum Takaoka & Davies, 1995 Simulium ( Gomphostilbia ) angulistylum Takaoka & Davies, 1995: 42 –47 (Female, male, pupa and larva). This species was described from females, males, pupae and larvae collected from Gombak, Pahang (Takaoka and Davies, 1995). It is characterized in the male by the abruptly bent style and ventral plate narrowed at both sides, and in the pupa by the gill composed of eight short slender filaments arranged 3+3+2 filaments with short stalks arising from the short common basal stalk. The aquatic stages of this species breed in small streams in low to medium elevations ( 159–1,160 m ) in Cameron Highlands ( Ya’cob et al ., 2016b) and other areas in Peninsular Malaysia . This species was recorded from Thailand ( Kuvangkadilok and Takaoka, 2000 ), where it was cytogenetically shown to be a species complex consisting of three cytoforms ( Pramual and Kuvangkadilok, 2012 ). There is a possibility that the record of this species from Thailand by Kuvangkadilok and Takaoka (2000) might have been wrongly made, based on S . ( G .) isanense Takaoka, Srisuka & Saeung , a close ally of S . ( G .) angulistylum ( Takaoka et al ., 2017d ) .
