Pseudococcus cryptus
[UCRC]
Remarks.
Initially imported from Hawaii in an unsuccessful biocontrol program against
P
.
citri
(
as
Pauridia peregrina
Timberlake 1919b
), this species later established from material imported from
China
in 1950 (
Bartlett 1978c
). Another strain was recently imported from
South Africa
and released in the central coastal area (Daane
et al.
2008). The host record of
Planococcus krauhniae
in reports from the early 20th century represents a misidentification of
P
.
citri
(
Bartlett 1978c
)
. Two specimens (UCRC) are recorded from
Aonidiella aurantii
on Valencia oranges from Riverside County, but this record needs to be confirmed.
