Occurs in small troops, rare, annual, odour and taste not distinct and inedible. Stromata initially dull-black, long and smooth with smoky-white spore deposits. It becomes brown, cylindric to fusoid, elongated, smooth to warty, longitudinal striations, round to obtuse apex, fertile head into blackish-brown to dull-brown, short stem deeply embedded in the bark with short rooting base, occasionally branched at the tip and white hard flesh on maturity. Papillate ostiole and stromata measures
