Taxonomic review of the genus Osbornellus Ball (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) in Central America 2702 Author Domínguez, Edwin Author Godoy, Carolina text Zootaxa 2010 2010-12-03 2702 1 106 journal article 11755334 Osbornellus lineatus Beamer ( Figs. 58a–58e ) Osbornellus lineatus Beamer 1937: 106 , DeLong y Knull 1946: 32, Oman 1949: 122 , Metcalf 1967: 2190 . Redescription. Length: 5.0 mm. Color as in the O. rarus group ( Fig. 1b ). Vertex broadly angulate; median length about equal to distance between eyes at posterior margin. White markings at and around apex more or less fused, bordered with brown. Ocelli almost entirely ringed with brown, with pale spot just off inner margin of each. Brown transverse band at apex of coronal suture. White mark bordered anteriorly with brown but lateral brown borders very faint, fused with white lines along inner margins of eyes. Pronotum mottled light brown with irregular bands of pale and dark marks along anterior margin. Scutellum white, slightly darkened in middle, with large orange spots in basal angles. Anterior wing transparent, light yellow, with many white spots and brown patches; apices brown; usually with brown spots along costa and commissural line. FIGURE 58. Osbornellus lineatus Beamer. a) Pygofer. b) Valve and plate. c) Style. d) Aedeagus and connective, ventral view. e) Aedeagus, lateral view. Male genitalia: Pygofer about 1.5 times as long as greatest width, moderately projected posteriorly, apex widey concave at middle; macrosetae long, distributed along apical half ( Fig.58a ). Valve triangular. Plates long, apex rounded, folds in middle of lateral margin and setae plumose ( Fig. 58b ). Style with apophysis long, straight, tip truncate ( Fig. 58c ). Aedeagus in ventral view, square and with wide base; shaft straight, slender, apex pointed, slightly longer than ventral processes, with conspicuos truncate lateral; dorsal projection ( Fig. 58d ). Ventral processes arising at one third length of aedeagus, very narrow, apices pointed. In lateral view, shaft wide, curved dorsad, apex rounded, slightly longer than ventral processes; dorsal projection wide, apex expanded and truncate. Gonopore subapical. Ventral processes close to shaft, apices almost touching knobbed tip of shaft, very narrow, curved dorsad, apices rounded ( Fig. 58e ). Diagnosis. Very similar to O. rarus , but in lateral view O. lineatus has the apex of the ventral processes close to the shaft and slightly curved; the aedeagus is curved and knobbed at the apex. In O. rarus the ventral processes are straight at the apex and the apex of the aedeagus is pointed. Distribution. USA , México , Costa Rica , and Panama ; 800–2600 m .
