Diagnosis. The broad, black, uninterrupted vertical line at the center of the pronotal disk in combination with the extremely narrow vertex will distinguish the members of this species from congeners. Description. Size : Length 8.0 mm; width 2.5 mm . Form ( Fig. 135 ): Narrowly triangular. Integumental color : Cranium light brown at front, epicranium black; pronotum sides yellow, center of disc with broad black line; elytra mostly black, with yellow humeral angle that unite with narrow yellow line along epipleural margin, latter unites with broad yellow fascia at elytral posterior two-thirds. Head : HW/PW 1; frons indented; EW/VW 6.5; antenna as in Fig. 175 , funicle compressed. Thorax : PL/PW 1.1; elytra strongly flared to posterior two-thirds, EL / PL 5.7; EL/EW 2.6; anterior margin of protibia with 12 spines. Male genitalia : Aedeagus as in Fig. 179 . Male mesodermal internal reproductive organs ( Fig. 195 ): Medial accessory gland longer than lateral gland; testes comprised of 12 follicles. Female mesodermal internal reproductive organs ( Fig. 196 ): Spermatheca not capsular; spermathecal gland attached to subapex of spermatheca; bursa copulatrix succular. Variation. Size: length 7.0– 9.2 mm ; width 1.8– 2.0 mm. Specimens that have the dorsum almost all yellow may show only a faint vertical dark line on the pronotal disc. There is substantial variation in the color pattern on the elytra, a portion of which is exhibited in Figs. 69 and 70 . Natural History. Specimens were collected in October, December, and January. Distribution. This species is known from Colombia , Peru , Bolivia , and Brazil ( Map 2 ). Etymology. The trivial name, callanga , constitutes a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality. aterrima species-group Ichnea beetles belong to this species-group if they have a narrow, wedged-shaped body form, the elytral punctations are seriate, and the distance between the eyes is about equal to the greatest width of the antennal scape. There are four species in this group, one of which extends geographically into the USA . The combined distribution of this group ranges from southwestern USA to southern Brazil .
