"Habitat in Europae α campis aridis & β aquosis scaturiginosis." RCN: 1063. Type not designated. Original material: Kalm , Herb. Linn. No. 180.2 ( LINN ) ; Loefling 141 , Herb. Linn. No. 180.1 ( LINN ) ; Herb. Linn. No. 180.3 ( LINN ) . Generitype of Myosotis Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot. : 127. 1929). Current name: Myosotis scorpioides L. ( Boraginaceae ). Note: Although Wade (in J. Bot. 80: 128. 1944) indicated Clifford material (BM), identifiable with M. palustris (L.) Hill as lectotype , there have been difficulties with the application of the name, which has been used in the sense of both M. arvensis (L.) Hill and M. palustris , and occasionally discarded as a nomen ambiguum. Verberne (in Acta Bot. Neerl. 8: 330-337. 1959) and Holub (in Preslia 38: 130-136. 1966) have both discussed the matter at length. It may be that a formal proposal (for conservation or rejection) will be needed to resolve this problem.
