Females present grayish-brown pigmentation on antero-dorsal region of head and predorsal region, all fins grayish-hyaline, except for anal fin (which is dark red to black), red to dark-red pigmentation on middle portion of flank and well-marked vertical bar surrounded by light area. Males also differ from females by presenting long filaments extending dorsal-fin branched rays, and stiff hooks on distal-most lepidotrichia segments of anal-fin branched rays.
