They share the same counts for dorsal, pectoral and anal fin rays, very similar counts for lateral-line scales and gill rakers, have very similar morphometric measurements and somewhat similar color patterns (stripes of varying intensity can be observed in all four species at least during one stage of development), but can be easily separated based on color in all stages of life.
