• Smallto medium-sized mammals; body shape is long and slender, with a pointed face, small ears, fairly short legs, and a long tail.
• 65-180 cm.
• Old World tropics throughout Asia and Africa, also southern Europe.
• Found mainly in forests, although some species also live in more open habitats such as savannah and grassland.
• 14 genera, 34 species, at least 79 extant taxa.
• 1 species Critically Endangered, 1 species Endangered, 9 species Vulnerable; none Extinct since 1600.
