Distribution. Cryptogenic. Cosmopolitan; Galápagos: Santa Cruz.

Remarks. The Galápagos specimens represented the first Neotropical record of this species (Wheeler 1995). This is primarily a shoreline species, breeding in decaying seaweed (Wheeler 1995). This species is also recorded from the Juan Fernandez Islands (only known South American records of this species) and is the only sphaerocerid species known from both islands (Marshall 1997a).
